FSU football needed to show signs of life in all three phases against Jacksonville State. How’d they do in my performance goals for the game?

FSU football seemed to have hit rock bottom getting blown out by Miami last week, however, I thought they were about to find a new low in the opening quarter against Jacksonville State.

Going into the game, I needed to see some progress from the Noles in all three phases of the game. Special team has been the one phase that’s improved over the past couple of years.

Some FSU fans thought it was corny to have goals against an FCS team, but it’s where the program is right now.

The crazy thing is I wasn’t off much at all with the numbers I outlined in terms of being realistic. I wrote about how we needed to see big plays on special teams.

I wrote about how we needed the defense to hold Jacksonville State to 17 points or below, and finally, the offense needed to score 35 points or more against a team playing their first game of the season.

If you would have asked me at the end of the first quarter if any of these goals were attainable, I probably would have burst out laughing.

However, as we wrote earlier this morning, Jordan Travis coming into the game changed everything for FSU football.
