Make A Big Special Teams Play

The special team unit looked good against Georgia Tech in the season opener. The kickoff team was effective in kicking the ball shallow with the coverage unit often making the tackle before the 20-yard line.

However, that fell off a tad against Miami with them averaging 26 yards per return. The punt return coverage unit was good in both games, and FSU’s freshman punter Alex Mastromanno is averaging 43 yards per punt.

I need to see a big special teams play from this unit on Saturday. When’s the last time the Noles have had one?

When is the last kickoff return for a touchdown or punt return for a touchdown? Heck, when’s the last big kickoff or punt return that gave the offense great field position?

That’s been missing for some time, though it looks like Travis Jay has the goods to make it happen if he’s healthy.

I don’t want to see field goals Saturday, but if they attempt them, I need to see them go through the uprights for the confidence of the young kickers.
