FSU football: Noles to cover the spread against Jacksonville St?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football desperately needs a good performance against Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon. What would it mean if they cover the spread?
I know, I know. As a fan you simply want FSU football to win a game. The Noles opened as near four touchdown favorites over Jacksonville State this week via some sites.
However, that line has already been bet down to -26.5, according to the Action Network. It’s crazy to say, but it’s hard to imagine FSU beating anyone by that big of a margin with the way they looked against Georgia Tech and Miami.
The offense has scored two touchdowns in two games, and the defense has allowed teams to march up and down the field at will.
This game Saturday will be the season opener for Jacksonville State, who finished last season (6-6).
Thoughts
On the bright side, the FSU offense has been able to move the ball at times in the first two games. However, they seem to fall apart when they get into enemy territory. It’s either penalties, lack of execution, or turnovers that bite them.
They had a couple of missed opportunities against Miami that would have made the final score somewhat more respectable.
I’d like to think they’ll be able to cash in on those opportunities against Jacksonville State. The Noles will have the edge in talent, experience, and conditioning since they have already played two games.
However, those things haven’t meant much the past two years, with the Noles having close calls with FCS teams like Samford in 2018 and Louisiana-Monroe last year.
When was the last dominating win for the Noles? I guess you could say they dominated Syracuse last year with the score 35-3 going into the fourth quarter. I wrote about the three things I need to see from the Noles against Jacksonville State.
Hopefully, we’ll see those things, and the team can find confidence as they move into their toughest part of the schedule.
