Missed Tackles

One of the issues against Georgia Tech was tacklesmissed. The players would often be in a position to make a tackle for a loss or keep a play to a minimal gain but would miss the tackle, and the play would go for big yardage. Here are three prime examples:

Here we have junior safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey missing a one-on-on tackle against a freshman quarterback. The tackle wasn’t going to prevent the first down, but the play should have never gone for 18 yards. The play should have gone for four yards max.

This play didn’t count because of an ineligible lineman downfield, but it’s another example of FSU being in a position to make a tackle and missing to allow yardage. Senior linebacker Emmett Rice reads the play, but takes a bad angle and completely misses the tackle although he could have used the sideline as a defender too.

I can’t tell who this is missing the tackle. It’s a play that should have gone for a loss of yards but ended up going for an 18 yard gain. Georgia Tech went from what should have been second and 11 on their 48-yard line to first and 10 on the FSU 33 yard line.

These types of plays will have to be made in the future.
