FSU football head coach Mike Norvell spoke with media following Wednesday’s practice. Here are three takeaways from the press conference.

FSU football fans, we’re inching closer and closer to game day, and the Noles continue to refine things to prepare for Georgia Tech.

Mike Norvell spoke with the media on a variety of things, a bit shorter than usual, but there’s less questions to discuss with fewer questions in the air.

Here are the main takeaways from Wednesday’s press conference:

Staying Healthy

The Noles are still practicing hard, but smart, as the game week approaches. Mike Norvell has had a big emphasis on intensity and physicality since he’s arrived in Tallahassee, however, now it’s about the finer details while preserving players leading up to the game.

Preparation for Georgia Tech

The coaching staff has been digging into Georgia Tech film for a bit now and continuing to prepare for things they could see on September 12. Norvell has a healthy respect for Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins and expects them to improve from their 3-9 record from a year ago. Norvell plans to have a mock game on Saturday as if they were playing to continue preparation for the game the following week. It’s a way to get the players acclimated to how things will be in actual game days so everything can be as organized as possible.

Players Still Competing For Starting Jobs

Norvell named James Blackman as the starting quarterback Tuesday, but there are still jobs up for grabs as players will continue to compete for those leading up to next week’s game. He emphasized they haven’t named starters for some special teams positions, but feel confident in several players to get the job done.

Thoughts

It sounds like Mike Norvell is happy with where this team is at the moment. Now, it’s all about executing the finer details of game-planning for Georgia Tech.
