FSU football hasn’t signed a composite five-star recruit since the 2017 recruiting cycle. That could change with the 2022 class.

FSU football has a history of signing some of the best high school players in the nation. The Noles have been able to sign multiple five-star recruits over the last decade.

However, the last three years have seen a decline in everything across the board, including five-star recruits coming to Tallahassee.

FSU hasn’t signed a five-star player since Cam Akers, Marvin Wilson, Joshua Kaindoh, and Khalan Laborn all signed in the 2017 recruiting cycle.

The Noles have flirted with players that were borderline five-stars. Jaiden Lars-Woodbey was ranked as a five-star before dropping to a four-star in the composite late in the 2018 recruiting cycle.

The same holds true for Akeem Dent in the 2019 recruiting cycle. FSU signee Demorie Tate was close to being a composite five-star in the 2020 recruiting cycle.

However, the drought could end in 2022 as the lone FSU commit in that close received his fifth-star Thursday.

Travis Hunter Jr. announced the news via his Twitter account:

The composite ranking has Hunter as the No. 7 player overall and the No. 2 cornerback. He’s considered the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia and committed to Mike Norvell and the Noles on March 3.

Hunter plays on both sides of the ball and was incredibly productive on offense with nearly 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He also plays basketball and continues the trend of FSU targets playing more than one sport. However, his ranking as a cornerback tells you where he’s going to play on Saturday’s.

It’s a long way to go until Hunter can sign, but he represents the Noles hard on social media. If there are a season and the Noles show progress on the field, hopefully, he can get more elite players to join him in the class.
