FSU football has one of the lowest APR scores in the NCAA, but that looks like it will be changing soon under Mike Norvell.

FSU football fell on and off with the field under Jimbo Fisher. The crazy thing is both falls coincided with one another.

The fall off the field caused FSU’s APR score to be among the lowest in the NCAA. That score seriously hampered Willie Taggart’s ability to manage the roster the way it needed to be, and it’s something Jimbo Fisher failed to do as well.

However, one of the bright spots of the Taggart era was getting players to perform better academically.

It looks as though Mike Norvell is picking up right where he left off with the Noles posted their highest team GPA ever this spring a couple of weeks ago.

The good news? That doesn’t seem to be a fluke after Norvell’s former program at Memphis increased their multi-year APR to 980.

A perfect score is 1,000. For comparison sake, FSU’s APR score is 942, which is improved six points over season after the spring’s record performance in the classroom.

If we take a look at how Memphis performed under Mike Norvell in the classroom, one can only assume that success will continue at FSU.

The spring semester was a great indicator, especially with all the challenges the players faced with having to deal with the coronavirus issue. Some people may say it made it easier with the classes being online, but at the same time, it was a lot to handle unexpectedly and forced the players to adapt to things outside of the norm.

Would the team GPA be higher than 3.127 had the players been able to have access to the comfort of normal? I’d like to think so, and that’s why I think the academic success this spring was no fluke.
