Still Relatively New At The Position

Cam Akers played the quarterback position in high school ladies and gentlemen. Did he drop back every passing play like Peyton Manning and never run the ball?

Of course not.

However, running as a quarterback is different than learning how to run as a running back.

As a running back, he had to learn how to read the blocks correctly, understand when to cut back against the grain, how to be patient and allow the blocks to happen first, and not try to bounce everything outside.

However, he’s a great play of Akers reading everything right and imposing his will against the Miami defense:

Akers will continue to get better as a runner, especially if he is selected by a team with a decent offensive line. Sometimes I think Akers missed holes at FSU simply because he was not used to a whole being there most of the time. Once he gets accustomed to the scheme, he could be dynamite at the next level.
