Derrick Brooks

FSU linebacker Derrick Brooks was a consensus First Team All-American in 1993 and 1994. He was also a three-time First Team All-ACC and ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 1993.

Ironically, Brooks playing on the same team as 1993 Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward likely overshadowed how great he was that season though Brooks didn’t get any consideration for the award.

The Heisman has historically shown bias towards offensive players for whatever reason.  He was drafted in the first round with the No. 28 overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft.

Brooks was an 11-time Pro Bowler, 5x First-Team All-Pro and 4x Second-Team All-Pro. He was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, NFL 100th Anniversary Team, and NFL 2000’s All-Decade Team.

He helped lead the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Brooks is in the College Football and NFL Hall of Fame and is one of 11 former Noles to have his jersey number honored.
