FSU football brought in some blue-chip players in the 2018 recruiting class. It’s time for these five players to contribute in 2020.

I have discussed at length how the highly ranked FSU football recruiting classes of the old regime have failed to produce since 2015.

If you recall, we did the leg work and found that from 2015-17, 53 percent of the blue-chip players signed are no longer with the program or have not made any real contributions.

The 2018 class was different in that it was a transitional class with Willie Taggart getting hired in December once Jimbo Fisher bolted for Texas A&M. It was considered the No. 11 class overall, with 13 of 21 players rated blue-chip players.

In other words, the highest-rated transitional class since the Early Signing Period was implemented. Taggart did an incredible job of bringing the Noles up over 50 spots in the national rankings in two short months.

Six of the 21 are no longer with the program, but there were some hidden gems like three-star Keyshawn Helton, who was becoming an impact player before being lost for the season due to injury in 2019.

There’s still a lot of talent from that class that has yet to contribute. Some of them have been injury-prone, with others waiting their turn on the depth chart.

Others have been slow to develop for whatever reason. Let’s take a look at five blue-chip players from the 2018 class that need to shine in 2020.
