Final Thoughts

One of the more amazing things about the FSU defense was how often teams ran the ball against them.

FSU had opposing offenses attempt 535 runs against them which averaged out to 41 attempts per game.

FSU held teams to below 3.25 yards per carry in seven of its 13 games in 2019. They only allowed over 150 rushing yards in five games, and two of those were the first two games of the season when they were trying to run the 3-4.

They had four games where they allowed less than 100 rushing yards.

The only thing that concerns me is Memphis got slightly worse against the run in 2019 compared to 2018, but some of that can be attributed to its bowl game against Penn State when they were outgunned in the trenches, and Adam Fuller didn’t coach that game. Penn State had 396 rushing yards and averaged 7.47 yards per carry.

Fuller also didn’t have the personnel and talent he has inherited with FSU football.  When I look at the talent and experience they have returning coupled with running the 4-3, I can’t help but think the defense will be improved overall and possibly elite against the run.
