FSU basketball completed its season sweep of rival Miami Saturday afternoon. Nole Fans react to the performance against the Canes.

No. 8 FSU basketball (20-3, 10-2 ACC) got its 20th win with their regular season sweep of the Miami Hurricanes (11-12, 3-10 ACC) Saturday afternoon.

The game didn’t start well with the Noles playing sloppy and having to dig out of an early 10-2 deficit.

FSU had 10 turnovers in the first half and allowed Miami to shoot over 50 percent. The only saving grace was FSU shot lights in the first half at 58 percent to hold a 50-47 halftime lead.

The second half saw the Noles tighten up defensively while continuing to shoot it well, finishing at 53 percent overall and 50 percent from long-range.

Miami was never able to tie or take the lead while the Noles gradually pulled away as their depth began to over and win the game 99-81.

FSU opened up an 18 point lead with just under four minutes left in the game and Leonard Hamilton pulled his starters with two minutes remaining. They were five players in double figures, led by M.J. Walker and Patrick Williams with 14 points respectively.

Thoughts

It’s always great to get a win over a rival no matter the sport. It was even more refreshing since the Noles needed overtime to get past the Canes last month.

The win helps the Noles keep pace with Duke and Louisville at the top of the ACC conference. FSU basketball will travel to Durham, North Carolina, Monday night to take on the Blue Devils with Duke coming off its rivalry game against UNC Saturday night.

A win there would mean FSU could control their destiny by winning out the rest of the regular season schedule to capture the ACC regular season title and likely a No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
