Blue Chip Busts

I understand stars matter in recruiting. I’m not foolish enough to think otherwise, but I think FSU football fans need to understand where FSU is as a program right now.

This staff is in a position where they have to raise the floor of the program by signing good players at positions of need.

If success was only tied to recruiting a ton of blue-chip players then one would think FSU would have a better record than 18-20 over the past three seasons. They’ve recruited a ton of blue-chip players over that time frame, but unfortunately, a large number of those players have never panned out.

Check it:

  • 2016: 7 blue-chip player busts
  • 2017: 3 blue-chip player busts
  • 2018: 2 blue-chip players have already left the team

FSU signed 41 blue-chip players between 2016-18 so that’s 12 that’s already departed from the program or never materialized into a contributor on the field.

That’s 29 percent of the blue-chip players signed during that period. Just because a program is signing a high percentage of blue-chip players, they still have to fit positions of need and need to be developed.
