FSU football has its second transitional class in two years with the hiring of two different coaches. Mike Norvell is looking to close the gap in 2022.

One of the pitfalls of FSU football changing coaches twice since 2017 is having to bring in transitional recruiting classes.

Those are classes that are basically patched together, a combination of recruits that decided to stay and most recruits that choose not to sign early.

That translates to a lot of elite players not being available and having to settle for options B, C, and D most of the time.

Those types of classes usually are not fruitful, in fact, five players from the 2018 recruiting class have already separated from the program. That’s 24 percent of the class already gone.

A transitional class also puts the coaching staff behind on the next recruiting cycle and so on because they are still trying to wrap up the current class.

Well, Mike Norvell is trying to close the gap already on the 2022 class. The coaching staff have sent out a ton of offers to both 2021 and now 2022 recruits over the past few weeks.

FSU football has sent out 54 offers to the 2022 class thus far. For comparison sake, Alabama has sent out 46 offers to the 2022 class. Florida has sent out 66 offers and Georgia has sent out 54 offers.

This proactive approach is what’s needed if FSU football is ever going to establish itself as one of the top programs in college football again. Of course, they have to win more than 18 games over the next three seasons.

However, having those relationships beginning now will give the Noles a shot at shining more elite players early than if they take a reactive approach like past regimes.

FSU will host a “Junior Day” this weekend with several 2021 players and beyond on campus. It’s laying the foundation for future recruiting success.

All FSU has to do is show improvement and win more games to have the success they want to come to fruition on the recruiting trails.
