FSU football: ‘Noles 10 greatest games in 2010’s decade
By Kelvin Hunt
No. 11 FSU vs. No. 6 Michigan Orange Bowl 2016
The last New Year’s Six bowl win for the Noles and the last time we got to see FSU’s greatest running back of all time in the garnet and gold.
FSU entered the game as +7 point underdogs to Jim Harbaugh and a Jabrill Pepper’s less Wolverine squad.
The win cinched FSU’s fifth consecutive season with at least 10 wins. The story going into the game was how FSU’s high-powered offense hadn’t seen anything like Michigan’s highly ranked defense.
However, Jimbo Fisher’s offense went right down the field and scored a touchdown on their opening drive.
The Noles took a 20-6 lead into halftime, but the second half was full of fireworks as FSU shot themselves in the foot and Michigan took advantage of field position.
The fourth quarter saw Michigan come back to take the lead on a 30 yard run by Chris Evans with 1:57 remaining on the clock.
A huge 66 yard kickoff return by true freshman Keith Gavin put the Noles in business and Francois found Nyqwan Murray for a 12 yard touchdown with :36 second remaining.
The extra point was blocked and returned for two point PAT. However, FSU’s defense forced an interception on Michigan’s final possession to send Dalvin Cook out a winner.
Cook’s final game consisted of 145 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown along with three receptions for 62 yards.
