The FSU football head coaching saga is finally over. Mike Norvell will be the new head football coach at Florida State University according to multiple reports.

FSU football has its next head coach in former Memphis head coach Mike Norvell. It has been a long wait for FSU football fans who’ve been without a head coach since Willie Taggart was fired after the Miami game in early November.

The direction of the program was in question with so many rumors swirling regarding who FSU was interested in.

The fact FSU publically stated they had a plan to have a hire in place by the end of November didn’t help matters either when we’re a week deep in the month of December.

Nevertheless, a lot of FSU fans seemed to watch Norvell’s final game as Memphis head coach and came away impressed as they beat No. 20 Cincinnati for the second time in as many weeks.

Thoughts

A lot of fans were seemingly disappointed FSU football was not able to hire a more proven coach with power five experience as the process begin to unfold and Norvell’s name became the obvious choice.

However, Mike Norvell’s name was always in the mix from the very beginning which means the FSU administration didn’t reach for someone at the last minute. Will Norvell have challenges ahead of him at FSU?

Absolutely, with the first one being trying to salvage the 2020 recruiting class and assembling a staff with the early signing period ending December 18th.

The good thing is at age 38 his coaching tree is outstanding with a number of experienced coaches who could rejoin his staff in Tallahassee.

The other positive is Norvell supposedly incredibly organized and detail oriented which would be a departure from what was said about the old regime.

I would urge FSU football fans to be supportive with the new hire as possible
