FSU football: 2020 FSU QB target decommits from North Texas

FSU football had been in somewhat of a holding pattern recruiting wise until a new coach is hired, but things could be picking back up soon.

FSU football has a blue chip quarterback committed in Jeff Sims, but looks like it could be taking another QB this cycle and likely needs to with how the roster is currently set up.

Sims hasn’t decommitted yet but is hearing from other schools since Willie Taggart was fired earlier this month.

Since Taggart was fired recruiting has been relatively quiet with interim coach Odell Haggins mentioning the staff has been contacting recruits consistently to keep them in the know what what’s happening with the coaching search.

However, FSU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles recently officially offered three-star QB Austin Renfro who was a North Texas commit on November 19th.

The official offer tweet is “pinned” on his Twitter profile. Renfrow is no longer committed to North Texas as of Wednesday morning:

Renfro is the No. 50 ranked pro-style QB in the country and hails from Briles’ home state of Texas. He stands 6’3″ and is near 190 pounds with 14 offers according to 247 Sports.

It’s good to see the Noles active on the trails again. It sort of makes you wonder what Briles knows about the coaching search right?

Would he be offering a QB without knowing for sure if he’d be retained by the new coach coming in?

Renfrow is a player Briles has had contact with for quite some time and fits the mold of some of the QB’s who played for Briles while at Baylor.
