FSU football should be close to hiring its next head coach to replace Willie Taggart. Here’s three reasons why Matt Campbell is a risky hire.

FSU football will hopefully announce its next football coach in the next 7-10 days or so. The FSU administration as done a good job of keeping things close to the vest with a limited number of names being floated around.

I wrote why I thought Penn State’s James Franklin would be the best option for the Noles to hire Sunday.

A lot of folk on social media seem to be vouching for Iowa State’s Matt Campbell.

In fact, he’s the odds on favorite by some oddsmakers to become the next head coach at FSU. I’m still not sold on that happening yet for a variety of reasons.

I think Campbell’s a really good coach who’ll turn 40 years old in a few days so there’s a lot left to write in terms of his coaching career. He’s had success at multiple stops, but neither are anything close to the caliber of FSU.

While I think he could turn the FSU football program around, I think he would be an incredibly risky hire for the Noles at this point.
