FSU football is going bowling with the win over Alabama State Saturday. Here’s three observations from the game that give me pause for next year.

I wrote yesterday FSU football didn’t play as well as one would hope against the level of competition Alabama State brings to the table.

The Noles nearly covered the 41 point spread, but the Hornets did miss three field goals on the day while making some questionable game management decisions that cost them points.

In other words, the game felt much closer than the final score would indicate. They converted 40 percent of their third down opportunities while completing 64 percent of their passes.

On top of that, there were a lot of receivers running open who were missed with inaccurate throws.

The Noles have too much talent in the secondary to be beaten that many times against the likes of Alabama State.

They also have too much talent to allow an offensive line of that caliber to only allow two sacks and two quarterback hurries.

I’m a firm believer that whoever the new coach is will have a tougher road ahead of him than when Willie Taggart took over in 2017.

The team will be less talented overall while trying to fix the cultural issues that remain while potentially working in new coaches on staff.

Here are my three observations from the Alabama State game.
