FSU football spent most of the bye week out of the national spotlight, except for the stupendous news that their selfish veteran punter is leaving.

If you’re a fan of the FSU football team or another program for that matter, there is always that underlying fear that comes up during a bye week of some player getting in trouble with the law – whether that involves getting arrested or what not – or the horrible times that it has led to a player being hurt severely or even killed.

In the case of the Seminoles this past bye week, the “worst” news for the garnet and gold is that their longtime punter is transferring. That’s right, the “worst” news to come out of Tallahassee this past week was that Logan Tyler has entered the world of college football free agency known better as the transfer portal.

Tyler, a native of the state of Missouri, has been kicking for the past three seasons and set plenty of records when it comes to everything from number of kicks in a season to yards in a game and what not (see, that 5-7 season did something good for someone).

While some in the FSU football fan base have praised Tyler for moments during the losses in 2018 where he was on the field during the Marching Chiefs playing the fight song, it’s the reason why we haven’t seen him much in the 2019 season that bothers me and why I’m happy to see him gone.

You see, Tyler was implicated in a DUI case just before the opening game of the season where Tallahassee Police found an unresponsive man just past 2 a.m. before rushing him to the hospital after a scooter accident. No one has confirmed that the person was Tyler, but he has missed the last four games as a result.

For me personally, the fact that Tyler was involved in a DUI case and allegedly was the man who drove drunk is a deal breaker if I was the head coach of the FSU football team – as drunk driving is an issue that has a personal story in my heart for something that change the life of me and my family (without going into detail, I was not a drunk driver but have been hit by one).

The fact that Tyler – a 22 year old senior, not some 18 year old freshman who discovered the party scene around FSU – allegedly is still making a bonehead move shows the lack of leadership that head coach Willie Taggart needs to turn around what took place last season and Taggart should be praised for making the needed decision to sit him down.

light. More. Willie Taggart right in wanting college athletes to be paid

I do think Tyler has a chance to learn from this mistake – but I am happy that he will be learning somewhere other than the campus of FSU, since making this decision (if he did) this late in your college career shows you’re either not smart enough to make a good decision or just don’t truly care about making things different on the campus.
