FSU Football: Why bye week has come at worst time for Seminoles

FSU football just played their best game of the 2019 season and now has to wait two weeks to play a team that just played their worst game in years.

As the seconds ticked off the clock in the convincing win for FSU football this past Saturday, the fact of the matter came true that this was something fans of the Seminoles haven’t seen in a while – the Noles heading into the bye week off a victory, something that hasn’t happened for the Seminoles since the 2016 season.

The 31-13 victory over N.C. State was without a doubt the best team victory in the 17 games that Willie Taggart has been the head coach – from backup quarterback Alex Hornibrook heating up any conversation about a change at the position to the defense for FSU football remembering what it’s like to…well, actually play defense.

Now, the Seminoles have to wait two weeks before playing their next game – against a Clemson team that nearly got upset last weekend at North Carolina but won it by a single point when the Tar Heels went for a two point conversion at the end of the game instead of tying it up and going to overtime.

Now, I get that the bye week is going to be good for the Seminoles for a variety of reasons – namely, give the team a chance to get healthy after the first five games, including at the quarterback spot where James Blackman sat out last week after hurting his knee in the game before.

But, with all that being said – it also gives Clemson a chance to take a breath and remember they are a team that has won the ACC the last four seasons and the national title two out of the last three years inside of a Tigers team that just escaped with a win against a team that, with all due respect, doesn’t have the athletes the Seminoles do.

I’m not saying that the Seminoles would go up to Clemson and get the upset win if the game was played this week – but you have to think the chances are a lot better to get the Tigers when they are struggling a little bit as opposed to when they have had two weeks to get prepared.

Because if FSU football was taking on the Tigers this weekend, even with the struggles of late, you would have to think chances are a lot better of getting their first win there since the 2013 season.
