FSU Football is at the point where something has to be done to mix things up – and with the second half woes at quarterback, there is one simple solution.

For weeks now, it’s been the same story surrounding the FSU football team: build a lead going into the half and give fans hope, only to see it all go away thanks to everything from a defensive letdown to bad quarterback play in the second half that allows the opponent to come back and leave the Seminoles with a 1-2 record.

While that first issue is something that has been taking place since game one, the issue under center has been one that has reared its ugly head in both last week’s loss to Virginia and the one point win a week before against Louisiana Monroe – and it’s one that can be fixed.

While James Blackman should get plenty of credit for his monster first halves in games against Boise State and Louisiana Monroe, the second half performances the last two weeks means that FSU football should seriously consider giving grad transfer Alex Hornibrook a serious look under center sooner rather than later.

This is not like the last time the Seminoles brought in a grad transfer at quarterback – I think we all want to forget the Everett Golson experiment – in the sense that this is a situation where the Seminoles have to fix what has turned out to be a major problem before it gets out of hand.

I am not against James Blackman being the starting quarterback for the Noles – I am against the notion of not fixing a problem when there is a solution there. If the other option was just another transfer, Jordan Travis, I would not be as eager to make a change simply because Travis – while very talented – doesn’t have the big game experience.

Hornibrook was within one game of leading his former school, Wisconsin, to the College Football Playoff and has two wins under his belt against a school FSU football fans want to beat each season – the Miami Hurricanes.

Do I think James Blackman should start this weekend against Louisville for the Seminoles? 100 percent and would fight any notion that he shouldn’t start that game. Should Hornibrook come in if that second have struggle begins? 100 percent.

At this point, head coach Willie Taggart is coaching for his career in Tallahassee – and now is not the time to let personal pride or whatever is preventing a change get in the way of that.
