FSU Football: National disrespect toward 2013 Noles is disgusting
By Jason Parker
FSU football produced a team that was arguably the best in the history of the game – but ESPN became the latest to show no respect with its rankings.
When the history books are written about the 2013 FSU football team, the term greatest ever is going to be used to cover what the team did that season – a season that included them being just the fourth team in the last 30 seasons to finish in the top seven of both total offense AND total defense along with no team getting within 14 points until the title game.
It’s a team that produced award winners – including the Heisman Trophy handed to quarterback Jameis Winston after his magical campaign – and the night in Pasadena where the Seminoles came back from 18 points down to topple Auburn in the final BCS championship game.
It’s a season that will be remembered by those in the FSU football family – and disrespected by those not in garnet and gold. Don’t believe me? Check out the latest rankings by ESPN of all enterprises.
Florida State Seminoles Football
In a recent ranking of the 150 best college football teams of all time, the Worldwide Leader in Sports ranked the 2013 Seminoles – make sure you’re sitting down for this one – as the 29th best team in the history of the sport. That’s right, there is a group of people who made this poll who think there were 28 better teams.
Earlier this summer, I wrote that the 2013 Noles were slightly disrespected at being ranked sixth by one outlet – so being called 29th is downright embarrassing and shows some serious insanity on the part of whoever let this go. Go ahead and read the article about how teams ranked ahead are given credit for their defense while their offense are scoring no more than 20 points a game.
But, as I thought more about it, I realized something very important: the 2013 FSU football team is not going to be respected ever outside of those of us in garnet and gold.
There are going to be those criticizing the schedule (never mind that we beat five ranked teams by an average of 37 points, a number brought down by that win over Auburn) and those who attack Jameis Winston for playing while under investigation for allegations of sexual assault that he was not charged for.
We know that it was the best team in the history of the sport – it’s just a shame that others are going to do whatever it takes to keep the 2013 Seminoles from the title of the greatest team to ever play the game of college football.
