FSU football will look to right the ship against Louisiana-Monroe Saturday. The Noles have strong recent history against the Warhawks.

FSU football fans could be a little leery about the upcoming game against Louisiana-Monroe Saturday after almost losing to Samford last season.

So I thought I’d give folk a quick reminder of the ‘Noles last encounter against the Warhawks. The Noles last played Louisiana-Monroe in the disastrous 2017 season.

It was the game the Noles has to reschedule to make a bowl. FSU football defeated the Warhawks 42-10 led by a true freshman QB in James Blackman and running back Jacques Patrick.

The FSU offense averaged 7.41 yards per play and had 305 rushing yards while only allowing 1.7 yards per rush. They allowed 4.34 yards per play with the Warhawks converting 5 of 15 third downs.

Blackman did throw two interceptions with one giving the Warhawks a short field in which they converted into a touchdown.

Louisiana-Monroe opened their season with a 31-9 victory over Grambling State Saturday and had 315 rushing yards.

I’m sure FSU football fans will see that and get concerned since Boise State was able to run the ball so well Saturday. However, Boise State has a legitimate offensive line with a few guys that will play in the NFL.

The Noles opened at 21.5 point favorites according to oddsmakers.

Thoughts

The FSU football offense should be better this year than it was in 2017. The defense though I’m not so sure about.

Of course the Noles will have a huge talent edge and should dominate this game Saturday unlike last year’s performance against Samford.

If the Noles struggle against Louisiana-Monroe it will likely be foreshadowing of things to come. If they dominate how I think they will, it’ll at least give FSU football fans hope going into the Virginia game.

That Virginia game is now the most important game on the schedule. A win there resets the season for Willie Taggart. A loss, and I’m sure it’ll be doom and gloom from there on out.
