FSU football: 3 disturbing observations from ‘Noles defense

No Adjustments

Notice how I said Boise State’s first play of the game was a run for 17 yards? There never seemed to be any type of commitment to stopping the run game of Boise State.

Also, the Noles played a ton of zone defense in the secondary. I know the Boise State QB was a true freshman and they may have been trying to confuse him.

However, why not switch to more man-to-man when it was clear the zone wasn’t going to work? FSU has blue chip players across the entire secondary but Harlon Barnett didn’t want to use that athleticism?

It’s not like Boise State was trotting Clemson sized wide receivers out there. Also, please trash the idea of Joshua Kaindoh and Janarius Robinson dropping in coverage.

I was concerned about that before the season began, but I definitely don’t need to see that anymore as that’s just poor choice of personnel. No disrespect, but Decalon Brooks doesn’t need to be on the field if they plan on having their best 11 out there.

To be fair, the FSU defense did play a ton of players in hopes of keeping players fresh. Maybe that’ll pay off later in the year for depth purposes, but either way Harlon Barnett needs to figure things out in a hurry.
