Can FSU Football be both overrated and underrated in 2019 season?

FSU Football has some lofty expectations after having their first losing season in over four decades – but could they either be too much or not enough?

For the FSU football team, the 2019 season is going to be one that quite frankly is going to be a whole new world – as the Seminoles look to continue the tradition of excellence built over much of that span while also looking to rebound from their first losing season in over four decades, dating back to the first year under Bobby Bowden.

The fact of the matter is that there are many people both inside and outside of the Seminoles family who believe that what took place last season was a one time thing – while at the same time, there is a segment of the college football fanbase who either think or want it to be the start of the end of the Willie Taggart era.

That weird era of FSU football being both overrated and underrated at the same time is something that might not last long, but it seems like something the Seminoles are going to have to live with during the 2019 season…at least according to one major outlet.

During a recent listing of their picks for the ACC in 2019, CBSSports.com expert Jerry Palm was one of those who called the Seminoles overrated entering 2019.

"Rebuilding does not happen overnight, but recruiting is going well with a top 20 class this year…However, Florida State is not ready to compete for a conference title. Even if the Seminoles finish second in the division, they are still a couple of years away from getting back to being what they were."

I’m pretty sure that even the most diehard FSU football fan knows that the Seminoles aren’t going to win the ACC, but that’s a different issue – because in the same article, both Ben Kercheval and Barton Simmons said the Noles were the most underrated team in the conference.

"There’s still a ways to go before FSU is ready to even be in the same field as Clemson, but it’s not like they’re completely devoid of talent. This could be a down year for the ACC, which gives the Noles some wiggle room to rebound. I still question whether the long-term buy-in to Taggart will happen, but Year 2 should be good enough to get things going"

Kercheval went out on the limb to say that the Seminoles are going to beat Boise State in the opener as well as both Miami and Florida (which I also predicted) while another writer, Dennis Dodd, said FSU football will be borderline fighting for a bowl game and Taggart is getting fired.

So, just like everyone else in the game it’s all going to come down to what the Seminoles do on the field starting Saturday against the Broncos.
