Pressure True Freshman QB

Boise State announced they have decided to start a true freshman at QB against the Noles a few days ago.

Hank Bachmeier is a former four-star pro-style QB who enrolled at Boise State in January. I must admit I got a little giddy when I read the news.

A true freshman beginning his college career on the road against a talented defense like FSU? That’s usually not a great recipe for success unless you’re a generational talent like Trevor Lawrence.

Bachmeier is talented, but he’s no Lawrence that’s for sure. FSU is going to have to shut their running game down and force Bachmeier to beat them with his arm.

At that point, they need to find a way to make him uncomfortable. They can do that in a variety of ways. They can look to bring pressure up the middle or off the edge, or they could disguise coverages and drop back instead of rushing out of their 3-4 look.

Basically, anything that will confuse or make him hold the ball longer until rush can get home will work too.

I suspect the Boise State offensive coordinator will have a limited play sheet. If the Noles can get to him early it’ll likely set the tone and force him into a couple of turnovers or simply bad decisions.
