FSU football may be facing their most important game in recent seasons against Boise State, but their head coach knows he is facing the biggest game.

It’s officially game week for the FSU football program as the 2019 season is just days away from getting underway – and while the Seminoles are putting last minute touches on the upcoming opener with Boise State, they do so knowing that after what took place last season this is going to possibly be the most important game in program history.

Yes, even bigger than last year’s opener against Virginia Tech or the season before against Alabama – because of what took place in a season where the Noles went 5-7 for their first losing campaign since the mid 1970s. But, even if it wasn’t the biggest game for the team it will be the biggest game for their leader – ever.

For FSU football head coach Willie Taggart, the opener with the Broncos is going to be bigger than any game he has coached at any stop before Tallahassee and any place that he may end up coaching afterward – because he has everything to win with a victory and everything to lose with a defeat.

If the Seminoles come out on top against Boise State, it will be a huge relief for a program that hasn’t won an opener since 2016 – and increase chances extensively that the Seminoles could be undefeated or have just one loss heading into the biggest game of the season on October 12th when they take on Clemson.

A win would also ease the tension on a program that forget what it was like to have a losing season and deal with the adversity that came from it, even as the summer has seen more and more come to light that the Noles were a major dumpster fire before Taggart came to town thanks to mismanagement from their former leader.

Now, if the Broncos can come all the way across the country and get a week one win, all that venom critics of the hiring of Taggart have been sending his way will be amplified and – in a way – be justified…all setting up the fears of a seconds straight losing season and wondering if he was indeed the right man to take the job.

With a packed house expected inside of TIAA Bank Field this coming Saturday and a vast majority wearing garnet and gold, the pressure is going to be on Taggart and the Seminoles to win the game not just to start off their season with a win – but help take that pressure off their fearless leader.

Anyone who has had a chance to interview Taggart like we have before knows he is beyond happy to be coaching the Seminoles, even after last season – but it’s going to take a monumental turnaround this season to make sure he has at least a third year in Tallahassee.
