FSU football knows that it is without a doubt the best team in the state when it comes to the sport, with two of their best ever getting ranked at the top.

As the FSU football team prepares for season No. 73 in the program’s history, the top three seasons are without a doubt the three that ended with the Seminoles hoisting a trophy that signified to the rest of college football that the Noles were the national champions of the game.

For those who bleed garnet and gold, the moments that led the Seminoles to win those titles in the 1993, 1999 and 2013 seasons will forever be etched in our memories – wins over in-state rivals, two nail bitting bowl victories with one team out of the group entering the conversation as the best team in the history of college football.

But, were two of those moments in national title seasons for FSU football the best in the history of all college football in the ENTIRE state of Florida? According to one major outlet, yes.

The Tampa Bay Times released their second installment of rankings for the upcoming season, this time being the top 50 individual moments in the state’s history – with No. 1 being Charlie Ward’s performance vs. Florida in 1993 followed closely by Peter Warrick’s memorable Sugar Bowl to close out the 1999 season.

"Ward went 25-for-35 in the first half, then tossed a pair of scoring passes to Kez McCorvey in the third quarter to give FSU a 20-point lead. After getting consecutive passes batted at his own 21, Ward took a third-and-10 snap under center, scrambled to his left when UF brought pressure up the middle, and lofted a flare pass over a linebacker to tailback Warrick Dunn. Dunn…out-sprinted his pursuing defenders all the way down the left sideline for a 79-yard touchdown."

"During his dazzling senior season Warrick scored touchdowns via run, pass, reception and punt return. The former Bradenton Southeast star had six receptions for 163 yards and three touchdowns, including a 59-yard punt-return score…to win Bobby Bowden’s second national title.Warrick, who had a combined five catches and zero touchdowns in three previous bowl games, capped the victory on a 43-yard scoring catch from Chris Weinke (despite clear interference by a Tech defender) with 7:42 remaining."

It would be hard to argue that those two moments were not just the best in college football history for both FSU football and the state of Florida, but maybe the two best moments in the history of the game considering the fact that both Ward and Warrick were unstoppable forces on the field of play.

After the same writer made the mistake of ranking Ward below Florida’s Tim Tebow on the list of best players from the state, it’s good to see that No. 17 got his rightful spot as the top of this list.
