While FSU is still trying to figure out who will start their opener, one of their hated rivals announced their starter in a perfect move for the Noles.

In Tallahassee, the FSU football team has been hard at work practicing to get ready for the opener of the 2019 season against Boise State on August 31st – while at the same time, one of the most hated rivals for the Seminoles had their own decisions to make about who would start at quarterback when they open against another hated rival.

It’s one of the bigger questions in college football and the Miami Hurricanes answered it on Monday with the decision to start…wait for it…redshirt freshman quarterback Jarren Williams when the Canes open the season on August 24th against the Florida Gators in Orlando.

Miami head coach Manny Diaz – a FSU grad, just to remind you – seems extremely confident in the move to go with someone who has never played a snap in college football against a top 10 ranked team according to ESPN.

"“We believe we can win with all three guys. However, we feel like Jarren has the greatest upside due to his passing ability, his instincts and his determination.”"

Now, there are so many ways we could go with this: we could make fun of the decision to start someone who has never played a down over someone who started most of last season (N’Kosi Perry) or the fact that Tate Martell made all that noise about the decision to transfer from Ohio State and is going to be fighting for second string at this point.

But, we’re going to let social media handle those points and we’ll just make this very simple: the decision to start Jarren Williams is going to be a great move for FSU as the season goes on ahead of the team’s annual battle on November 2nd in Tallahassee.

Now, let us give Williams credit – this was one of the top quarterback recruits in the country as part of the class of 2018 and has shown off his arm over the course of the spring and the early part of fall camp in part because of his consistency while both Perry and Martell have, at times, been hot garbage.

But, the fact of the matter is that Diaz – in his first real decision as the head coach of what used to be “The U” – dropped the ball from a standpoint of what was in the best interest of the team: sending someone to the wolves in their first game of the season and saying “best of luck” before the slaughter.

If you start Perry or Martell against the Gators, you still keep Williams’ mind in the right place and keep him ready to go just in case things take place and his number is called. Now, Perry has the mindset he can do no right from the team and Martell at this point has probably started shopping around for a new school to transfer to.

Could stranger things take place and Williams be the right man? Of course they could. But, are the chances better now the Florida wins big and the ‘Canes head into Tallahassee with a record of 5-3 or worse at this point? That sounds more likely.
