FSU football has had good recruiting momentum the last couple of weeks. Four-star running back Lawrance Toafili chooses the Noles.

FSU football coaches have put a ton of work into building this 2020 recruiting class. They identified realistic but quality targets they could land this recruiting cycle.

Slowly, they’ve worked towards locking down the state of Florida while nailing down positions of need on both sides of the ball.

They have at least partially addressed every single need in this class, but a big commitment from four-star running back Lawrance Toafili has given them a huge 1-2 punch at the running back position.

He announced the decision on a local news sports segment:

FSU needed at least two running backs this recruiting cyle with the possibility of Cam Akers and Khalan Laborn declaring for the NFL Draft after this season.

Toafili joining Jaylan Knighton means the Noles have met their need and adding another running back would be a luxury at this point.

He chose the Noles over Florida, Ohio State, Auburn and Michigan among others.

Toafili visited FSU this past week after not visiting for quite some time. It was thought his timeline to commit would take longer, but that last visit seemed to close to deal along with FSU being in a good position with several quality running backs with only a certain amount of spots left.

Toafili is considered the No. 165 ranked player nationally and the No. 13 running back in the nation. He’s considered the No. 28 player in the state of Florida.

Thoughts

FSU football needed to land another quality running back in this recruiting cycle and Toafili was always a name that seemed to be in the mix.

A lot of credit has to go to FSU running back’s coach Donte Pimpleton who was the lead recruiter. He caught a ton of flack on social media a few weeks ago regarding the Noles not having and running backs committed for 2020.

He gets to have the last laugh now provided these two players remain committed and sign with the Noles.

I thought Jaylan Knighton’s commitment would have a domino effect at this position and that seems to be what happened. Now it’ll be interesting to see if the Noles take one more running back.

They took three highly rated backs in the 2017 class, but only one of them saw the field as true freshmen in Cam Akers.

That likely will not be the case in the Briles’ offense that’s a bit more run heavy than the pro-style offense the old regime ran. The FSU football 2020 recruiting class is now ranked No. 7 above both Florida and Miami in the national rankings with Toafili’s commit.
