Syracuse

Boise State ended the 2018 season (10-3)and rolled West Virginia 34-18 in the Camping World Bowl game. Three of their wins came against Western Michigan, Wagner and UConn.

Their three losses came against Clemson in a game they should have won. They also lost the following week against Pittsburgh and then got smoked by Notre Dame.

The FSU game was 6-0 at halftime and they needed double OT to beat a terrible North Carolina team.

They were picked No. 22 in the recently released Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll. Syracuse loses the ageless and often hurt Eric Dungey at QB with sophomore Tommy DeVito likely replacing him.

FSU fans will remember DeVito replacing an injured Dungey, going 11 of 16 for 144 yards while throwing and running for a TD in the second half against a gassed ‘Noles defense.

Syracuse will replace three offensive line starters and DeVito isn’t the dual threat runner that Dungey was.

Syracuse’s defense also benefited a great deal from turnover luck in 2018 as they had a +13 turnover margin. That defense will also be inexperienced at linebacker in 2019.

One thing overlooked by most is how the Orange enjoyed good starting field position last season. Will that be repeated? If not, how will an offense with a lot of new moving parts respond? The defense allowed 5.83 ypp last season which tells me they relied a ton on forcing turnovers which isn’t sustainable.
