FSU football: 5 most overrated teams on 2019 schedule
By Kelvin Hunt
NC State
NC State ended the 2018 season (9-4) by getting curb stomped by Texas A&M in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl. Three of those wins were against the likes of James Madison, Georgia State and Marshall.
The losses came against Clemson, Syracuse, Wake Forest and the aforementioned A&M bowl game.
They were picked No. 43 in the recently released Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll.
It’s a team that lost its starting quarterback, leading wide receiver, offensive lineman, leading tackler on defense to the NFL Draft and a host of other contributors.
They also lost their offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from who ran a scheme that took advantage of FSU’s inability to get pressure on the quarterback by getting rid of the ball so quickly.
The Wolfpack are replacing a lot from last year’s team that beat FSU 47-28. Terrible field position and turnovers along with 16 penalties for 121 yards were the biggest difference in that game.
The NC State offense averaged 5.41 ypp which was below their 6.06 average for the season. I think a lot of people are looking at the 9-4 record and assuming they’ll be good again, but that’s likely not the case with them losing so much production.
