FSU Football: Magazine predicts ‘improved’ 2nd season for Willie Taggart

FSU football knows what needs to be done during the 2019 season and one magazine is all in on the prospect of things improving for the 2nd year coach.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for over a calendar year now, you would know that the FSU football team is in a position that they haven’t been in since the first year of the Jimmy Carter administration: attempting to bounce back from a losing season that has plenty of critics pouncing on head coach Willie Taggart.

After going 5-7 last season, the pressure is at a point where those who were not supporters of the hire for whatever crazy reasons they might have have spent the entire offseason almost giddy with excitement about the idea that the Seminoles could have another season that would lead to a decision to hire a new coach.

Well, I’m not sorry to tell those fake FSU football fans this fact…but the Taggart era seems ready to stick around Tallahassee for 2019 and beyond – and it’s not just those of us who cover the Seminoles up close and personal who feel that way.

Athlon Sports ranked all 130 coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision level entering the 2019 and season and the man who will be leading the Seminoles on the field of play in just four weeks against Boise State came in right at No. 48, the second highest of any FBS coach in the state of Florida.

"Taggart’s debut in Tallahassee didn’t go according to plan, but he also inherited a bigger mess than most realized prior to the 2018 season. While last season was certainly a disappointment in Tallahassee, Taggart’s track record suggests there will be improvement in 2019.After a 6-18 start to his tenure at USF, the Bulls won 18 games under his watch the next two years. A revamped staff and some work on the recruiting trail seem to have the Seminoles poised to improve this fall"

Now, those negative fans in garnet and gold are going to be the first to say that nothing is proven until we see what takes place on the field – and they would actually be right. If the Seminoles can head into the Clemson game with one loss or less, it might be time to start getting apologies ready if you’re a part of that group.

But, like many others this offseason, another respected publication has recognized what we were saying all along: Taggart is rebuilding what was left an utter mess by the previous “leadership”.
