FSU Football, at the moment, has an opening for a non-conference game during the 2020 season and the Huskies sound like the perfect team to fill it out.

While the FSU football team is getting ready to hit the practice field for the first time this Friday in preparations for the 2019 season opener against Boise State, there are some in the team’s department who are already looking forward to the future and scheduling games for the Seminoles to play.

One look at the early schedule for the 2020 season shows that it is nearly all filled out – as the Seminoles will face an eight game slate of ACC teams, including home games with Clemson and Pittsburgh, to go along with a non-conference slate that includes hosting Florida, traveling to Boise State and facing West Virginia in Atlanta.

While some, including myself, don’t think the return game with the Broncos will take place for FSU football, it’s conformable to know that the Noles have at least one spot left open to fill out – and with the events of the last few days, the perfect team has sprung up to fill that spot.

You ready, Seminole fans? How about a home game with…wait for it…the UConn Huskies! Yes, you read that right.

For year, many fans in garnet and gold have privately – and in some cases, like us here at Chop Chat, loudly and out loud – about the Seminoles’ brass having a tendency to finish out their schedule with games against subpar teams from either lower conferences or even the FCS level.

While I am not saying that the Noles should kill themselves with a schedule that, using 2019 as an example, includes teams like Clemson and Florida and Boise State, scheduling games like Alabama State this November and Delaware State a few years ago wasn’t the best look – so why not at least play a FBS team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2010?

With UConn’s move from the American Athletic Conference to the Big East in every sport but football starting in the 2020 season, the Huskies are going to be looking to fill out a schedule that at one point had eight conference games – and a trip to Tallahassee would be the perfect fit.

It would be perfect for the Seminoles in a season where, if they can bounce back in 2019 to win at least eight or nine regular season games, could be in position to do something nationally – so why not at least play a FBS team you know you could more than likely beat (since they’ve won a combined seven games the last three seasons).

I’m not saying FSU football will play their first ever game with the Huskies next season – I’m just saying it would be a genius idea.
