FSU Football: 2019 ACC predictions from media are (sort of) on point

FSU Football was predicted by the over 170 members of the media last week in Charlotte to finish third in the Atlantic Division during the 2019 season.

As the co-expert for one of the fastest growing sites covering FSU football and everything garnet and gold (check our numbers), I was mire than excited for the possibility of ripping into the 173 media members that voted last week during ACC Kickoff for who they thought would win each of the league’s two divisions and where teams were placed.

After all, last season’s resume for the Seminoles would give those haters the perfect chance to show was little respect to a team that has won the ACC a total of 15 times in their 27 seasons playing in the conference – and there were some media members voting that made it clear they don’t have hope of much improvement in 2019.

Monday, the time finally arrived as the conference released the results – and FSU football was picked to finish third behind Clemson and Syracuse and ahead of fourth place N.C. State.

All of a sudden, the same thought popped into my head: darn it, I can’t really argue with that.

Now, am I saying that I agree with that prediction and would have voted that way for the Seminoles? Not at all (and we’ll talk more about that in a month when we give you Chop Chat’s preview for the ACC). But, at the same time when you look at the overall predictions for the ACC according to the media, there isn’t much to argue about.

In the Atlantic Division, Clemson was the runway winner as all but two of the voters picked the Tigers number one – and those two voters should be stripped of the honors of having that vote for doing something so insane. As for the Orange at number two, most people seem like they were voting off last year’s solid season so you can’t fault that too much.

Meanwhile, the Coastal Division was an absolute cluster as every one of the seven members got a first place vote with Virginia predicted to make their first ACC Championship Game as they just edged out FSU football rival Miami by 11 total points when all the votes were added together.

After finishing next to last in the division during a season to forget in 2018, those in garnet and gold would not turn down a chance to finish in the top half of the Atlantic Division once the upcoming season has come to an end.
