Offensive Cohesion

That was one of the biggest problems for the FSU program in 2019. The offense wasn’t coordinated because of the patchwork offensive staff Willie Taggart hired(or was forced to hire).

None of them had ever worked together and the players had never ran a spread offense as they were used to pro-style under the old staff.

I know it sounds like an excuse and their certainly should have been some improvements as the season went on. However, in hindsight it’s something I should have given more credence too.

Although, I think the way FSU football won the final few games in the 2017 season likely clouded my judgement on that.

Willie Taggart has outright stated he expects the FSU offense to be much improved under new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles and offensive line coach Randy Clements.

The two have a documented track record of big time success together and have done it in year one at new programs like Houston in 2018.

The FSU defense wasn’t great last season, but I do believe they were highly impacted by the inept nature of the offense. Not to mention how much they were on the field and how many times they had to defend a short field( 22 times) after the FSU offense turned the ball over.

A better offense changes everything for the defense AND special teams which were poor in 2018 and have been for the past few years.
