FSU Football could be traveling far with new ACC bowl tie ins
By Jason Parker
FSU football could be spending their bowl season in Southern California or even the city of Boston in the coming seasons thanks to the new agreements made.
In the history of the FSU football program, the Seminoles have traveled across the country and around the state of Florida to play in one of the 18 different bowl games that the Noles have played dating back to their first one after the 1949 season – the action packed Cigar Bowl win over Wofford down in Tampa.
Since then, the Noles have gone across the Sunshine State – taking part in the Orange, Gator and Tangerine Bowls over that span – while also taking part in classic games like the Fiesta, Rose and Sugar Bowls and even some of the mid-major games like the Music City, Emerald and even their most recent bowl game, the Independence Bowl.
In the coming seasons, the FSU football team could be heading back to one of the bigger New Years Six bowl games – or they could actually end up playing in places like Boston, San Diego or up the road in Birmingham depending on how they finish.

This week, the ACC announced their bowl tie-ins for a six season period staring with the 2020 season. With it comes a few games that are the same and a few that will have a conference team heading all over the place for a holiday present for their teams and fans.
Continuing a tradition dating back to the 2006 season, the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens will again host the ACC champ if they don’t make the College Football Playoff or the next highest rated team from the conference in years where the bowl doesn’t host the playoff semifinal game.
After that, games like the Belk, Camping World and Sun Bowls remain tied into the conference and teams like FSU football – but starting that season, a team from the conference will be heading to the Holiday Bowl, the Outback Bowl (if a Big Ten team plays in the Orange Bowl) and a yet to be named bowl game inside Boston’s Fenway Park.
While it might be fun for FSU football to spend the holidays out in Southern California, I think a majority of people in garnet and gold wouldn’t mind if the Noles skipped out on playing inside the cold of late December in the state of Massachusetts.
