First Downs

Man, the Noles were awful in this category. How many times do you remember the offense trotting out there to run three plays and punt in less than two minutes?

FSU football only averaged 17 first downs per game in 2018 which is good for No. 116 in the nation.

If the offense isn’t able to sustain drives by getting first downs that means the defense is out on the field way too much right?

This area will tie directly into the No. 1 hidden area so just hold tight when I make the connection and you have that “aha” moment of why the offense was so terrible last season.

It’s pretty simple, have success on first and second down to make third down manageable to convert. Want to know how we know that didn’t happen?

The Noles only converted third downs 29 percent of the time and often it was third and long they were trying to convert.

It’s great to score fast, but offenses have to be able to sustain drives with some consistency otherwise the defense is going to be gassed way too soon.
