Red Zone Scoring

Do you want to hear a crazy stat? FSU football was only in the redzone 32 times in 2018. The Noles were tied with UTEP and Rice in that department.

Yikes.

That’s a direct correlation of not being able to sustain drives which we’ll talk about later.

The offense scored 78 percent of the time when in the red zone but only scored a touchdown 59 percent of the time which was tied for No. 87 in the nation.

Here’s some reference points for you. ACC Atlantic Division foes Clemson and Syracuse were in the red zone 75 times last season which was tied for No. 2 in the nation.

NC State was in the red zone 71 times.

Remember how I talked about doing the little things right over and over? When teams get in the red zone they have to make opposing defenses pay by scoring touchdowns.

Clemson scored touchdowns 76 percent of the time and Syracuse was a at 60 percent last season. Notice the difference there?

One team won the national championship and the other won 10 games. It’s all about capitalizing on every opportunity to put points on the board.

However, the first thing would be getting into the red zone more often to do so for the Noles in 2019. All that begins by being able to consistently sustain offensive drives.
