FSU football has been one of the best programs of the last decade despite back-to-back terrible seasons.

FSU football was the butt of a lo of jokes last season as they finished 5-7 and missed a bowl game for the first time in nearly four decades.

They’re 12-13 over their last two seasons and somehow still made a list for the top 20 programs of the last decade beginning in 2010 according to Sportingnews.

Not only that, they were named the fourth best program behind only Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.

The top 10 teams can be found in the graphic below:

Criteria

"National championships: 10 points eachNational title game appearances: 5 points eachCollege Football Playoff appearances: 5 points eachNew Year’s Day Six/BCS bowl appearances: 3 points eachHeisman Trophy winners: 2 points eachThat’s not all: Overall winning percentage, All-Americans and NFL Draft picks first-round picks were awarded with a poll style 15-1 score."

Thoughts

The first thing I notice is FSU football is the ONLY team listed in the top 10. Florida did crack the list at No. 13 but Miami isn’t listed at all which isn’t a surprise.

Not to mention FSU has only suffered four losses against both those teams in the last decade with three of those coming in the last two years.

Most of the FSU football success during this period came from 2012-2014. The Noles went 39-3 during with a national title, college football playoff appearance and a Heisman Trophy winner in Jameis Winston.

The Noles also had 12 All-Americans with an overall record of 90-30 (winning 75 percent) since 2010. FSU also had 11 first round NFL Draft picks during this time period.

The days of FSU being ranked top five seem like light years ago even though it was as recent as 2017.

FSU will look to get back to respectability in 2019 and the perception of the program could change drastically with a win over Boise State in their opener.
