D.J. Matthews

D.J. Matthews is the type of player that could give opposing defenses nightmares when effective.

He’s going into his junior season after putting together a respectable sophomore season considering how everything went.

Matthews finished the season with 42 receptions for 382 yards and one touchdown. Matthews is the type of player most effective with the ball in his hand in space.

That was the issue last season, there just wasn’t a lot of yards after the catch as Matthews averaged just nine yards per catch.

Some of that was who the QB was and there were rumors Matthews wasn’t a fan. A prime example is the one game James Blackman started last season against NC State.

Matthews has 10 receptions for 133 yards and the only touchdown he scored all season. If Kendal Briles looks to go more short passing game at times, Matthews could be a valuable weapon in space and the chemistry with Blackman should net great production.
