FSU softball knows they are just two wins away from heading back to Oklahoma City to defend their national championship – but face quite the challenge.

It was just under one calendar year ago when the FSU softball team did something that they never had before – went out to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series and came back home with the first national title in the recent history of the program after sweeping Washington in the championship series between the programs.

Now, head coach Lonni Alameda has the garnet and gold in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season and looks to make it back to the WCWS for the first time in that span in back-to-back seasons – but to do so, the Seminoles have to get past a team from not that far away.

Starting Thursday, FSU softball opens up the best of three games round of the postseason tournament fun as they host an Oklahoma State team who hasn’t made it to the final round of the annual events in over 20 seasons.

For the Seminoles, light work was made of the first two opponents during the regional last week in Tallahassee as they run ruled both Bethune Cookman and South Florida before coming from behind to defeat SEC power program South Carolina and make it for a seventh straight season to the round of 16 teams left.

For the Cowgirls, they come to Tallahassee with a 42-14 record on the season that included three wins last weekend during the regional round as they got past BYU in the opener and won a slugfest over Tulsa in their second game before a barnburner in their third game sent them to the Super Regional round for the first time since the 2011 season.

FSU softball will be facing Oklahoma State for the first time since the 2015 season, when the Seminoles beat the Cowgirls during an early season event in California. All time, Oklahoma State has an 11-7 edge in the series that includes four straight wins in the postseason between the teams.

Game One will take place on Thursday night at 7 p.m. with Game Two the following night also at 7 p.m. If there is a game three, it will take place Saturday at noon.
