A lot of words can be used for FSU football as they get ready for the 2019 season, but is the word sleeper a legit one to describe the Seminoles?

In just over three months, the FSU football team will kick off their 2019 schedule when they face off against Boise State in Jacksonville – and I don’t want to be the one to tell you, but the Seminoles know after what took place last season that they need to show it was a one time error that took place during their last schedule of games.

By now, the secret is out that the Noles did something that they hadn’t done in nearly four decades before – finish the season with more losses than wins in 2018 as the Seminoles finished with the first losing season for the program since 1976.

But in 2019, the FSU football team is thought of to be in better shape – in part due to a schedule that is slightly easier than what the Seminoles saw last season as well as a team that has at least one season under their belts with the new offense and play calling scheme under head coach Willie Taggart.

So, the question is presented: is FSU football a sleeper team this season? In the thoughts of one group of experts, yes.

Heading into the upcoming months before the season kicks off, 247 Sports ranked the teams they called the top sleepers in each division of the Power Five conferences and the Seminoles were the winners for the ACC Atlantic Division.

"As bad as the 2018 was for Florida State, there’s reason for optimism heading into Willie Taggart’s second campaign in Tallahassee. Only four Power Five teams return more weighted production than the Seminoles.FSU returns more players who contributed in important areas than most other programs nationally. Cam Akers, James Blackman and Tamorrion Terry are a few of the high-quality returners on offense this fall."

What this article said is something that we have been saying here at Chop Chat and most experts have been saying since the end of last season – the FSU football team is not going to produce another losing season in 2019 and we will be watching the Seminoles playing in a bowl game this upcoming season.

I’m not going to be stupid and say there will be double digit wins and a berth in the College Football Playoff when this season is said and done, but there is no reason to not think the Seminoles can win eight or nine games this coming season.

We’ll find out soon enough if all of our hopes come true, but plan on seeing FSU football playing in at least 13 games during the 2019 season.
