FSU softball clicked on all cylinders over the course of the last three days to win their sixth straight ACC tournament crown after shutting out UNC.

For the 28th time in history, the Atlantic Coast Conference held their annual post season tournament for the softball teams that play each season – and for the 17th time, the FSU softball team can celebrate being the champions of the whole thing after dominating this weekend’s events in Tallahassee to set a record.

For the seventh straight season, the Seminoles made their way into the championship game of the event – and for a record sixth straight time, it was head coach Lonni Alameda’s team that ended up winning it all with a dominating effort at the plate and behind strong pitching from a group led by Meghan King as the Noles blanked North Carolina 8-0.

After making quick work of Georgia Tech and Notre Dame in their first two games, the Seminoles made quick work of the Tar Heels early on – getting a run in the first inning off a RBI from Dani Mason and two more the following inning off a RBI hit from Cali Harrod and a bases loaded walk to Mason.

In the third inning, King came into pitch and didn’t do anything wrong the rest of the game as she pitched four innings of shutout softball to keep FSU softball in control.

When the Seminoles were up to bat, they did work as Harrod connected on a solo homer in the fourth inning.

That was followed by more RBIs from both Sydney Sherrill and Mason and the blowout was starting for the garnet and gold.

In the fifth inning, Anna Shelnutt took a pitch deep before Sherrill lined a double to center and the ballgame was over as the Seminoles continued their record setting streak of conference championships as they won their seventh ACC title in the last nine seasons.

FSU softball will now wait until Sunday night to find out who they will be facing in the regional round of the NCAA tournament, which starts next weekend in Tallahassee.
