FSU Football: Willie Taggart on hot seat references are tiring

FSU football is already looking to rebuild after an awful season in 2018, but it can’t reload if their coach is constantly being pegged as a loser.

As the clock came down to triple zeroes in the final game of the 2018 regular season for the FSU football team, the Seminoles realized not only were they going to lose to the rival Florida Gators for the first time since 2012 – but the Noles  were going to be staying home the whole postseason that followed afterward.

For the first time since the 1976 season – yeah, it had been that long – the Seminoles were not going to be bowl eligible as they finished the first season under head coach Willie Taggart with a 5-7 record…and with it, the clock begin to start on how much longer Taggart would have to lead FSU football into action.

As the offseason has gone on, the heat has continued to simmer under Taggart’s spot leading the Seminoles – and that’s the worst thing that could take place.

If you are a loyal supporter of the FSU football team, you want what is best for the Seminoles no matter what. You want the man who is going to lead the Seminoles into action each and every single week and play with the best teams in the country.

Let us clear up any controversy at this point – Willie Taggart has that ability. Every single place he has coached before, he has started with a losing record in his first year and improved by at least two wins for the second season (and was five wins better in his first head coaching job at Western Kentucky).

Do the math, Seminoles: a minimum of two wins sends FSU football back into a bowl game and we’re not even worried about what’s going on in Tallahassee at this point.

But, even with spring football in the history books and the 2019 season the next step, Willie Taggart is still being labeled as squarely on the hot seat from all over the place. The Spun ranked him as one of the top five who could be fired during or after the upcoming season.

CBSSports.com was a little bit more diplomatic in saying the jury is still out on the leader of the FSU football team:

"Taggart has been known as one of the better program builders of the last decade, but taking on Florida State is a whole other animal. Even though this is his dream job, it remains to be seen if he’s a good fit there."

All of this is not only bad for the FSU football program, but it’s the worst possible thing that could take place when it comes to Taggart. I know there are plenty of people who have been counting down his time in Tallahassee since the day he got hired, but all that needs to stop right now if you’re a true fan of the Seminoles.

If the Seminoles can, for example, get back to an 8-4 record this upcoming season – how is that a bad thing? Yes, we all remember the times when the Seminoles were winning double digit numbers of games in a season not all that long ago, but at this point a winning season is a positive step forward.

Over four decades ago, FSU football bounced back from a 5-6 record to have the first double digit wins season in the history of the program – let us hope that things stick that same way and certain people regret the constant pressure being put on Taggart.
