FSU Football: Website predicts loss to Miami in 2019 for Seminoles
By Jason Parker
FSU football has come up short the last two seasons against their rivals from Coral Gables and one website thinks that number becomes three this year.
For the first time in nearly a decade, the FSU football team suffered something that might have been just as bad as the first losing season since the 1970s – as the Seminoles dropped games to both of their hated rivals, the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes, for the first time since the final season under legendary coach Bobby Bowden.
While the 27 points loss to the Gators was close only in the first half, the Miami game hurt even more for a variety of reasons – big lead blown, the fact Miami scored off turnovers from the Noles and a horrible call from officials that negated what would have been the game winning touchdown for the Seminoles.
Even with that fact, it isn’t like the Hurricanes have been dominate in the series as of late as what used to be The “U” has beaten FSU football (in what has been arguably the worst two year stretch for the program since the mid-1970s) by a combined five points in the last two meetings.
Because of that, and the notion that the Seminoles have to be better than last season, there are plenty of people who think FSU football will get back to winning in the series – and then there are some who clearly think Miami will do something for the first time in over a decade.
College Football News gave their predictions for some of the bigger games of the upcoming season – and while they have the Noles winning their opener against Boise State, they also think Miami makes it three in a row over the Noles for the first time since winning six games between the 2000 and 2004 seasons.
"Florida State should be better … should. Miami will be better. Projecting out to November, go with the team that’s certain to be stronger…"
I’m sorry…how will Miami be better? They still don’t know who their starting quarterback is going to be, they lost arguably their top dual threat at running back and their wide receiver who killed the Seminoles the last two seasons is now playing for Georgia – and that’s just the issues on offense.
I get that we have plenty to work on in Tallahassee, so I’m not here to disparage the ‘Canes – although, it is fun to do – but you could argue that Miami is going to be as was at the end of last year (a 7-6 season) while FSU football is going to be improved thanks to an easier schedule alone without taking into consideration any player talent.
For years now, the “U” has been back and all the swagger and blah bah blah (try living in South Florida and deal with it daily) – and neither time were they the better team against a Seminoles team that went 12-13 over the last two seasons, both times needing either a last second score or a FSU letdown to come out on top.
With both teams still having plenty of issues left to work out – and land mines they must encounter long before the November 2nd game in Tallahassee – it’s way too early for anyone to be predicting what will take place.
