FSU football fans could not be hearing the names of many former Seminoles stars called in this April’s NFL Draft according to one website.

It almost has become a yearly ritual for the FSU football fan: each April, with spring practice for the Seminoles in the books, fans of the garnet and gold turn their attention toward the annual NFL Draft to see which former Seminoles that will be selected by one of the pro teams to start their next step and make the Noles proud.

Over the past 31 drafts dating back to the 1988 edition, the Seminoles have seen plenty of talented stars make the move from Tallahassee to the next level – in fact, just eight of those times there has been three or less former FSU football players picked in a draft.

According to one website, that number could be up to eight by the time the 2019 NFL Draft is in the books. College Football News projected where players will get selected by round in the upcoming draft ahead of the annual scouting combine scheduled to start Friday in Indianapolis.

The site has a total of three players listed from FSU football – with just two of them being officially taken and a third on the bubble:

  • 2nd Round – DE Brian Burns
  • 3rd Round – DT Demarcus Christmas
  • 7th Round or Free Agency – WR Nyqwan Murray

If just two players from FSU football are selected, it would equal the number of players taken in both the 2016 and 2002 drafts. The lowest total in the last three decades was during the 2009 draft, when Everette Brown was the only Seminole to hear his name called.

Burns has fluctuated depending on who you talk to about being picked everywhere from the end of the first round to the beginning part of day two – while Christmas was originally thought to be a lower round pick, so I’m sure he would love to move up one more day.

As for Murray, we wrote this earlier in the year but it can’t help but be repeated: the combine is going to give him the chance to go nowhere but up when it comes to projections. His numbers last season don’t show his talent and skill, so any additional chance to get reps will be to his advantage.

Next. Nyqwan Murray can only benefit from NFL combine. dark

One thing is for certain: there will be no repeat of the six former FSU football stars that were picked in last April’s draft – and maybe that’s a good thing since it means more talent is staying in Tallahassee for the 2019 college football season.
