FSU football staff changes continue with the departure of offensive line coach Greg Frey. FSU fans weigh in on the decision.
FSU football head football coach Willie Taggart announced they would not be retaining offensive line coach Greg Frey moving forward.
It’s a move that’s not a total surprise considering the rumors of Houston offensive line coach Randy Clements to FSU have been circulating for over a month.
Some thought it was possible Frey could be kept on staff in another role but that wasn’t the case.
The FSU alum only spent one season in Tallahassee with FSU’s offensive line being among the worst in the power five conferences.
Check out the FSU football fan responses on Twitter:
Damn. Willie did Frey dirty man. Literally had the worst personnel to work with in all the power 5 conferences on the offensive line. Plus the guy was a former Seminole and solid recruiter. Makes 0 sense (other than Briles wanting his guy). Oh well

Salute to Greg Frey for actually doing his job despite knowing he was likely out. True Seminole and sorry it had to work out this way for him

I understand why Greg Frey had to be let go between the OL’s performance and Briles surely wanting to bring Clements to FSU but it’s a shame a favorite son had a chance to go home and was put in such an unwinnable situation. He’ll land on his feet quickly.

Thoughts
It really is a tough situation all around. Greg Frey is a good offensive line coach and a former Nole so it always hits close to home when it’s one of your own that has to be let go.
He was dealt a tough hand with the offensive line he inherited, not to mention the injuries that took place. However, Willie Taggart’s job is on the line and he hired Kendal Briles to right the ship offensively.
Briles has an extensive relationship with Randy Clements and if that’s who he wants to coach the offensive line then that’s what has to happen if coaches are going to be held accountable.
Taggart said they will look to make a hire quickly so I would expect it to be Randy Clements since that’s been the rumor for some time.
I will say that major props have to be given to Frey for how he continued to do his job with all the rumors swirling.
He didn’t quit on the program like some coaches from the past regime. He’ll land on his feet somewhere I’m sure and I wish him luck.
