FSU Football: Nole fans not taking kindly to Nick Cross loss
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football took another hit perception wise Wednesday when top 100 player Nick Cross signed with Maryland. FSU fans reacted to the news as you would expect.
FSU football lost the final member of its 2019 recruiting class when four-star safety Nick Cross signed with the Maryland Terrapins.
It was the second four-star recruit FSU has lost to Maryland in a week, but of course this battle had nothing to do with Nick Cross.
If it were up to Nick Cross he would have signed with FSU on National Signing Day. However, his parents had other things in mind since they apparently wanted him closer to home (Cross is from Maryland).
It also didn’t hurt his former high school coach is now a coach on the Maryland staff. Should Nick Cross’ parent make him go somewhere he really didn’t want to go? After all, he’s put in all the work to earn these scholarship opportunities.
However, they have provided the support and resources along the way too. It’s a tough situation all around.
Check out how FSU fans and players reacted to the news.
FSU four-star linebacker signee and along with Cross one of FSU’s best recruiters for 2019.
Thoughts
It sucks for the kid and everybody’s reaction tells us he did not want to go anywhere but FSU. Heck, it’s not like he made a huge announcement on Twitter or some video edit announcing the news as he hasn’t actually posted anything on his Twitter account.
The other thing is Nick Cross was arguably the FSU’s best recruiter for the 2019 class. How crazy is it going to be for him to enroll there after hitting up every recruiting target about coming to FSU football with him?
The good news is FSU signed arguably the best defensive backs class in the nation with or without Cross. It’s a loss but it’s not the end of the world as our own Jason Parker pointed out earlier.
I want all Noles fans to be like Frozen and let it go. It won’t be the first time FSU loses a recruit because of their parents.
In fact, there are a lot of times FSU has landed recruits because their parents really like FSU.
It’s how the cookie crumbles in the world of college football recruiting.
